Stetson University College of Law will present the Edward D. Ohlbaum Professionalism Award to Spencer Pahlke during its annual Educating Advocates: Teaching Advocacy Skills Conference in May.

The Edward D. Ohlbaum Award honors an individual whose life and practice display sterling character and unquestioned integrity, coupled with ongoing dedication to the highest standards of the legal profession and the rule of law. The award is designed to recognize a trial team coach and program director who exemplifies the late Professor Ohlbaum’s commitment to doing things with a high degree of professionalism, integrity and competency.

Pahlke is a shareholder in the law firm of Walkup, Melodia, Kelly and Schoenberger and a lecturer in trial advocacy at the University of California-Berkeley Law School where he coaches multiple trial teams. Pahlke has provided ongoing legal education, including developing and co-chairing programs produced in conjunction with Berkeley Law, with a special focus on providing training to young attorneys. Spencer was selected as a Super Lawyer from 2013-2017, as a Rising Star in 2011 and in 2012. In 2014-2017, he was listed by Best Lawyers.

“I have been fortunate enough to watch Spencer develop as a member of the trial advocacy teaching community, and he is the real deal,” said Professor Charles H. Rose III, director of the Center for Excellence in Advocacy at Stetson University College of Law. “Teams coached by Spencer are on point, capable and persuasive. He has made the trial advocacy program at Berkeley relevant. We cannot wait to see what he does next.”

The annual Educating Advocates conference, May 21-23 on Stetson University’s Gulfport campus, draws law professors, lawyers and legal practitioners from across the U.S. to learn the Stetson method of advocacy, develop teaching skills, learn new techniques and network with some of the most recognized names in advocacy teaching.
