Wilma Metcalf

Stetson University College of Law is pleased to announce that Wilma Fay Metcalf is the valedictorian of the Spring 2021 graduating class!

She earned the honor through her superior academic performance during law school that culminated in graduating at the top of her class. In addition to her academic achievement, Metcalf found success in a variety of extracurriculars.

She was a participant in the Honors Program, served as Editor-in-Chief of Stetson Law Review, and was a member of Moot Court Board.

As part of her Law Review experience, Metcalf earned the Stetson Law Review Outstanding New Associate award in Spring 2019, the 2020-2021 Law Review Editor Award, and published a Stetson Law Review Scholarship Series Presentation: Doubled-Up: How HUD Mistakenly Excludes a Vulnerable Population in the Spring 2021 edition.

While on Moot Court Board, she participated in the 2020 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition South Regional (earning Quarterfinalist and First Place Memorial with two teammates) and the 11th Billings, Exum & Frye National Moot Court Competition.

Metcalf’s other awards included the American Law Institute CLE Scholarship and Leadership Award and the Veterans Law Institute Award. Another notable accomplishment: While completing an externship with The Thirteenth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office’s (Hillsborough County, Fla.) Conviction Review Unit (CRU), she helped work on the case of Robert Duboise, who was exonerated after 37 years of a 1983 Tampa rape and murder when newly discovered DNA evidence thought to be lost revealed his innocence.

Metcalf earned her bachelor’s degree from Duke University.
