This beautiful stone circle is mostly intact, featuring 55 stones and a 26.8 m diameter. It is sited in a very isolated district on farmland and near a farmhouse 5 miles north of Millom. A minor road branches off the A595 and then a long farm track takes you to the site. The last 2 kilometers must be reached on foot. Located at SD172883. The circle lies next to Swinside Fell, part of Black Combe in southern Cumbria, North West England. An entrance-exit once stood on the monument’s south-eastern side. The first archaeological excavation of the site took place in 1901 under the direction of the Cumberland & Westmorland Antiquarian & Archaeological Society.
