This spring, students participated in a new study abroad experience in Athens, Greece. Under the direction of Dale Peterson, Director of Academic Administration and Adjunct Professor of Management, along with the support of Dean Yiorgos Bakamitsos and Associate Dean Monica Mendoza, 30 undergraduate students and one graduate student had a wonderful experience in Athens. 

During this travel abroad experience, in partnership with Hellenic American University, the students visited historical landmarks, including the Parliament, ancient Greek and Roman Agoras, and the first modern Olympic stadium. The students engaged in  meetings with Erik Holmgren, Economic Officer of the United States Embassy in Athens, Greece, and Dawn Bruno, Foreign Commercial Officer from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Students also had the opportunity to interact with several local and multinational companies, including a visit to Markellos, where they explored an olive grove, were given a tour of how their olive oil is processed and experienced a olive oil tasting. They also visited the largest urban regeneration project in Europe, The Ellinikon, that is transforming the old international airport into a 6.2 million square meter smart city. While there, the students heard from Hard Rock Café executives about their part in this incredible project. The group also participated in a traditional Greek dance lessons and a cooking class.

Of course, they also had some free time to enjoy the beauty of Greece—its views, food, and culture.
