As a proud participant of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, Stetson University offered free tax preparation services throughout the entire tax season.
Students who volunteered are IRS-certified and were trained to identify taxpayers’ eligibility for federal tax credits to help families get the most accurate return.
This year, 300 total returns were completed during this tax season – 10 on paper and 290 E filed returns. 30 students volunteered to be tax preparers/greeters, and four student assistant site coordinators acted as quality reviewers. On top of that, we also had 11 faculty/staff/community volunteers. Together, they completed a total of 919 volunteer hours.
Marianne Blair, Instructor of Accounting and VITA Program Director, showed her pride in how far the program has come along in Stetson: “This year’s VITA season was a remarkable success, made possible by the hard work and commitment of our students, faculty, staff, and community volunteers. Their efforts provided valuable support to individuals and families in our community, reinforcing the power of service and collaboration.”
