Earlier this semester, Stetson University’s School of Business Administration hosted 20 students from Lake Brantley High School. The visit was designed to introduce students to the college experience while also giving them early exposure to business, accounting and finance as potential career paths.
The group spent the day on campus and participated in an admissions session, a campus tour and a series of interactive discussions including an overview of the business, accounting and finance majors. They also had the opportunity to engage with current Stetson students during a panel, where they asked questions about majors, internships, and preparing for careers after graduation.
Our goal with this visit was to make both college and business careers feel more accessible and tangible. For many of the students, it was their first time on a college campus, and being able to interact directly with faculty and students helped them better understand what those pathways could look like.
“Visits like this are important because they help students connect what they’re doing in high school to real opportunities in college and beyond. When students see how business disciplines like accounting and finance translate into meaningful and stable careers, it helps them begin to picture themselves in those roles and better understand the value of a business education,” said Kenneth Najour, PhD, Assistant Professor of Accounting and one of the main organizers of the visit.
