Professor Anne Hallum a CNN Hero

Since 1992, Stetson University Political Science Professor Dr. Anne Hallum’s non-profit, the Alliance for International Reforestation (AIR), has helped more than 2,000 rural Guatemalan families protect their homes and villages from deadly mudslides by planting trees on mountainsides.

In addition, she also researched many local Guatemalan tree varieties and learned which ones could be strategically replanted to provide fruit, fertilizer, coffee, food and medicinal herbs. Under her leadership, nearly 4 million trees have been planted throughout Guatemala.

For Hallum’s efforts, she has been named one of CNN television’s 2011 Heroes.

Her story will be aired this weekend (barring breaking news) at the times listed below. In addition, her profile story and text article can be viewed at the CNN Heroes website.
