A 2-1 week and a match-clinching win against an A-Sun rival earned Stetson freshmen Maren Rygh (Tonsberg, Norway) and Alexa Stonish (Stony Brook, N.Y.) the Atlantic Sun Conference Sand Volleyball Pair of the Week honors for April 11, the conference office announced Wednesday. This is the second such award for a Hatters duo this year; individually it is Stonish’s second and Rygh’s first.

Rygh and Stonish won two of their three matches on the week, earning straight set wins against pairs from FAU and Jacksonville to lead the Hatters to a 4-1 win over the Owls on Friday, April 6 and a 3-2 win over the Dolphins on Tuesday, April 10. Their only loss was in a 5-0 Stetson setback to undefeated 13-0 Florida State. Rygh had a 14-kill, 16-dig double-double in the win vs. FAU.

Stetson improved to 6-7 in its inaugural season with the two victories. Stonish previously was part of the first A-Sun Sand Volleyball Pair of the Week in conference history with fellow freshman Julie Bassett (Wadsworth, Ohio) on March 21, 2012.

The Hatters conclude the regular season at the Fiesta on Siesta Key this Saturday before heading to Jacksonville, Fla. for the inaugural A-Sun Championships April 20-22.
