Stetson University graduating senior Marya Barry, voice major from DeBary, Fla., will present her senior recital on Saturday, April 5, at 3:30 p.m. in Lee Chapel inside Elizabeth Hall, 421 N. Woodland Blvd., on Stetson’s DeLand campus. The recital is free and open to the public and is being performed in partial fulfillment of a Bachelor of Music degree with an outside field in Education.

Barry will perform various musical selections including Five Hebrew Love Songs by Eric Whitacre; Opus 27 by Richard Strauss; “Steal me Sweet Thief” from the opera The Old Maid and the Thief by Gian Carlo Menotti; and various selections of melodié. Barry will be collaborating with Kristie Born, D.M.A., visiting assistant music professor at Stetson and renowned pianist; as well as Austin Burket, violin; and Joshua Albert, percussion.

Originally from DeBary, Fla., Barry has distinguished herself through performances in Florida and in Europe. As a member of the Stetson University Opera Theatre, she has performed roles including Fortuna in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse, and Marcellina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro.

In the summer of 2014, she will appear as Drusilla from Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Sulzbach-Rosenberg International Music Festival in Bavaria, Germany.

Barry is in her final year at Stetson University where she is earning a Bachelor of Music as a scholarship student of Lloyd Linney, D.M., professor of voice. She has also had the privilege of working with accomplished artists such as Susan Neves, Dr. Carole Clifford and Anton Coppola.

Along with her performance experience, Barry teaches voice for young singers at DeLand High School. Additionally, she is a School of Music Peer Success Coach for Stetson University’s Academic Success Center. Upon graduation in May 2014, Barry will continue her studies in vocal performance and pedagogy at the graduate level.
