Sophomore named to A-Sun All-Academic Team

Patrick MazeikaStetson sophomore first baseman Patrick Mazeika, pictured, has been named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic team, the league office announced on Monday. He is one of 13 players selected to the squad. 

A-Sun Sports Information Directors voted on the team. Minimum requirements included a 3.30 grade-point average and at least one full year in residency at the institution. All eligible players must have participated in at least 50 percent of their teams games. First-year freshmen and transfers are not eligible for the team.

Mazeika, who earlier this spring was named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV First team, boasts a 3.56 GPA in Sports Management.

Mazeika leads the Hatters and ranks fifth in the Atlantic Sun Conference with a .366 batting average. Entering the post season, Mazeika has 17 doubles, two home runs, 22 RBI and a team-high 40 runs scored. His .492 on-base average is second in the A-Sun.

Mercer’s Brandon Workman is the 2014 A-Sun Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
