Friends of Music Recital Friday

Jazz 2014The Stetson University Friends of Music Recital marks the official opening of Stetson’s 2014-15 concert season and the new academic year. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m., Friday night, Aug. 22, Lee Chapel, inside Elizabeth Hall, 421 N. Woodland Blvd. Admission is complimentary. The recital will be followed by a reception in duPont-Ball Library.

The concert will feature members of Stetson’s internationally renowned artist faculty, as well as current students returning to campus after summer performances around the globe.

In addition, the oil portrait of former Dean of the School of Music and Professor of Flute Jean West will be unveiled on stage. The portrait, the work of DeLand artist Jill Cannady, will be on view at the reception.

The program will include:

  • Domeniconi’s Koyunbaba, performed by Stephen Robinson, guitar. His guitar students Leonardo Quintero and Lyndall Vickers will perform Machado’s Motivo Barraco.
  • Chopin’s Ballade No. 4 in F Minor, performed by Michael Rickman, piano.
  • Tchaikovsky’s Valse Scherzo, performed by Routa Kroumovich-Gomez, violin, and Michael Rickman, piano.
  • “Recondita Armonia” from the first act of Puccini’s Tosca, and “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat” from Guys and Dolls by Loesser, by new Assistant Professor of Voice, tenor Jamison Walker, with Kristie Born, piano.
  • Selections from Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea, sung by music students led by Russell Franks, with Anthony Hose, harpsichord, and David Bjella, cello.
  • “Toccata” from Widor’s Organ Symphony, No. 5, by Boyd Jones on the Beckerath organ.
