Borders aren’t what they used to be. What they are, and what challenges they present for the United States and the international order, will be the subject of an International Symposium, “Borders vs. Globalization,” to be held at Stetson University on Monday, Nov. 17. This symposium is organized by Stetson University’s Political Science Department in conjunction with Sigma Iota Rho International Studies Honorary Society and WORLD: The David and Leighan Rinker Center for International Learning.

Dr. Emmanuel Brunet-Jailly (pictured right), associate professor of Political Science at the University of Victoria (Canada), will deliver the keynote address, “Why Study Borders in Globalization? What We Know and Don’t Know about Borders” at 10 a.m., in the Stetson Room, second floor of the Carlton Union Building, 134 N. Minnesota Ave., DeLand.

Brunet-Jailly will also be speaking at 2 p.m., in the Stetson Room, on “Comparing Border Security Policies in the EU and North America.” Both lectures are open to the public at no charge.

At the University of Victoria, Brunet-Jailly is the editor of the Journal of Borderland Studies and holds the Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Border and Region Policy.
