Stetson University will celebrate undergraduate research at this year’s STETSON SHOWCASE, Tuesday, April 14, from 9 a.m. and continuing all day. This is the 18^th annual SHOWCASE at which Stetson undergraduates present the results of their research to the Stetson community. With a day free of classes, students, faculty, staff, and the DeLand community will have the chance to view the individual projects, which include an impressive collection of poster and oral presentations, art exhibitions, music performances and more. Presentations will occur throughout the day at the following locations: Rinker Field House inside Hollis Center; the Hand Art Center; duPont-Ball Library, room 25L; Rinker Auditorium inside the Lynn Business Center; the Faculty Lounge on the first floor of the Carlton Union Building; Sage Science Center, room 257; Flagler Hall, room 334; and Elizabeth Hall, room 315.

This year’s keynote speaker is Julio Rivera, Ph.D., professor of Management, Marketing and Geography at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. Rivera is a leader in the undergraduate research movement and is the past president of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR, www.cur.org), where he was named Volunteer of the Year in 2005. He has been a continual advocate for the advancement of undergraduate research in the Social Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts. In 2002, he received the Carthage College Distinguished Teaching Award. Rivera’s keynote address, “What’s Next? Envisioning Your Future After Your Research” will be presented at 6:30 p.m. in the Stetson Room, second floor of the Carlton Union Building. The public is invited to attend.

Since 1999, the Stetson University SHOWCASE has highlighted undergraduate research and creative projects representing the academic disciplines across the DeLand campus. Classes will be cancelled Tuesday, enabling students to attend the various presentations across campus. All events are open to the campus community and to members of the public, free of charge. Students can earn up to five cultural credits throughout the event by receiving program stamps at the presentations. The full program of events is available online, and paper copies will be available to attendees on the day of the event. PLEASE NOTE: The 22:2 Arts Reception is NOT on the evening of SHOWCASE, as depicted in the poster above. The opening reception of this Creative Arts Senior Exhibition will be at 6 p.m., Friday, April 17.
