You might have seen the headline recently, “Millions at Risk from Rising Seas” based on a research paper out of the University of Georgia and published by the journal Nature Climate Change.

What you might not know is one of the co-authors is Stetson University’s own Jason Evans, Ph.D. Evans, an assistant professor of environmental science and a public policy expert on climate change issues in Florida, provided a critical piece of the research: the rate of sea level rise by 2100. He is currently working on sea level rise issues in Key West, Monroe County, and was a speaker at the Florida Climate Change Summit and a Water/Climate Change panel discussion at Stetson University in DeLand in mid-February.

Evans says the new study with former colleagues at the University of Georgia, is important since it revises upwards the number of people impacted by using population projections for 2100. It is important to keep talking about the science and to promote the climate-change conversation at both the local and national level, according to Evans.
