Stetson’s Second Stage Theatre Presents ‘POTUS,’ April 11-14

AHHHH! What is happening in the White House? Will the President be responding? Who is running this country?

Stetson University concludes its 2023-24 season with Selina Fillinger’s “POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive.” The production runs April 11-14 at the university’s Second Stage Theatre, inside the Museum of Art at 600 N. Woodland Blvd., next to the DeLand campus.

The comedy, a hit on Broadway in 2022 and nominated for three Tony Awards, is a fast-paced farce spotlighting seven capable women tirelessly saving an incompetent and narcissistic U.S. president. Echoing the spirit of acclaimed shows such as “The West Wing” and “VEEP,” the play is poised to delight audiences fond of political chaos humor.

Fillinger’s work refreshes the farce genre, traditionally male-dominated, with a clever script and a cast of women demonstrating their comedic and problem-solving skills. The ensemble features Sara Humbert as Harriet, Delicia Bent as Jean, Courtney Wood as Stephanie, Elizabeth Miller as Dusty, Hailey Jones as Bernadette, Rachel Yadanza as Chris and Tiffany Terry as Margaret.

The play includes mature themes and language, which may not be suitable for all viewers.

Showtimes are 8 p.m. April 11-13 and 3 p.m. April 14. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors, with free admission for students presenting a Stetson ID. Stetson community members can also attend for free with a valid university ID.
