The honors continue to roll in for Stetson senior Brooks Wilson, who was one of 41 players recently named to the midseason watch list for the Stopper of the Year Award, presented annually by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

In his first season as a closer, Wilson ranks second in the nation with 15 saves so far this year. He has appeared on the mound in 22 games for the Hatters, posting a 3-0 record with a 1.55 ERA in 40 2/3 innings of work.

Wilson was also named as a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award. Public voting for that honor continues through May 28 with fans allowed to vote once per day at http://www.seniorclassaward.com/vote/

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 candidates announced in March.

His numbers this year tell the story.

As a pitcher, Wilson has appeared in 22 games, all in relief, posting a 3-0 record with a 1.55 ERA in 40.2 innings of work. He is second in the nation with 15 saves and has 51 strikeouts against just 12 walks. This is his first season in the closer role after being a weekend starter for three years.

As a regular hitter for the first time in his career, he is batting .261 in 34 games (the team batting average is .245) with nine doubles, a triple and a home run. He has driven in nine while also drawing 22 walks, posting a .380 on-base percentage. He is also 5-of-6 on stolen base attempts.

He is a team captain, and is one of just eight players in the history of the ASUN to have been named both Pitcher of the Week and Hitter of the Week during his career.
