Stetson University’s new Center for Public Opinion Research (CPOR) will be located in the Rinker Welcome Center.

Roellke, PhD; Elizabeth Skomp, PhD, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; and Steven Smallpage, PhD, associate professor of Political Science, in the Sept. 19 article, “Stetson University Set to Launch Public Polling Center.”  “Establishing a new polling center as part of Stetson’s existing Institute for Social Research is a natural extension of our university’s nationally recognized strength in political science studies,” Roellke said. “Our goal is to grow the center and eventually expand its focus to national politics and polling to join other leading opinion-based polling institutions in the U.S.”

• The Daytona Beach News-Journal quoted Professor Emeritus Grady Ballenger, PhD, and Rajni Shankar-Brown, PhD, professor and Jessie Ball duPont Endowed Chair of Social Justice Education, in the Sept. 19 story, “Volusia Remembers Coalition holds ceremony memorializing 2 Black men, victims of 1896 lynching.”  “Thank you all for being here for this solemn ceremony mourning the deaths and lifting up the humanity of these two Black men,” said Ballenger, co-chair of Volusia Remembers. “This is painful work for all of us, and we acknowledge that it is especially hard for those who are white, whose ancestors were white in 1896. But it’s even harder for those whose ancestors were Black.” Shankar-Brown also read a poem she wrote to honor Harris and Johnson.
