Introducing the Office of University Events & Conference Services

With the hope of maximizing Stetson’s campus facilities, but also with a keen eye on ensuring that academic work and student programming is never compromised, Stetson’s Office of University Events & Conference Services is promoting campus spaces for event rentals and conference programming to alumni and the surrounding community.

That means promoting Stetson’s array of historic and uncommon venues, indoors and outdoors, such as Lee Chapel, the Carlton Union Building, Lynn Business Center, the Marshall & Vera Lea Rinker Welcome Center and Palm Court — with a significant caveat, according to Julie Hunter, executive director of University Events & Conference Services.

Palm Court is also available for event rental.

“We will always prioritize students and academic programs as we open our doors for rental use.” Hunter said. “With its wealth of facilities, Stetson University has a significant opportunity to serve DeLand’s community and beyond as a prime location for academic conferences, corporate seminars and space for social events.”

In addition, the Office of University Events & Conference Services offers expertise in strategic planning and event production, along with event marketing and experience innovation, all under a new, broadened palette of services. Each indoor facility and outdoor location is detailed in Stetson’s Venue Rental Guide.

Hunter added that a special focus is on events and programs that articulate the brand and vision of Stetson. Already, the office has been heavily engaged in facilitating summer camps and conferences, which encompass day camps and overnight programming available in June and July. Similarly, there are rowing concierge services for high schools/prep schools, colleges/universities and independent rowing teams.

Hunter arrived on campus in 2015 and remained with the Office of University Marketing until last spring, leading the management of university events. Aside from Hunter, the office includes Megan Lohsen, director of University Events; Taylor Church, associate director of Conference Services; Natalie Dykes, assistant director of Conference Services; and Micala Cunningham, event manager.

“This is an exciting time for Stetson,” Hunter said. “We have incredible venues; we have the expertise; we have campus support services at the ready. This is a win-win opportunity for everyone involved.”
