Women’s Tennis Claims Second ASUN Championship Title In Three Years

The Stetson women’s tennis team finished with an undefeated conference record of 10-0.

The Stetson women’s tennis team claimed the 2024 ASUN Championship title with a 4-1 victory over Florida Gulf Coast Sunday, April 21, at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers.

This is the second ASUN Championship title the Hatters have brought home in three years, after the team snagged the ASUN Championship title in 2022 — its first since the 1989 season.

“It’s big to win two out of the last three championships,” said head coach Travis Sandlant. “When you have a team that can take advantage of those opportunities and take two of the last three with this group, and two players graduating this year, it takes a big effort. For us to climb our way up the rankings and be at the top of the conference it is a big effort. It not only starts with the girls but everyone behind the scenes that does things to make our program nationally recognized. Big team effort by everyone at Stetson and glad to be a part of the university.”

The team currently owns a 15-6 overall season record, an undefeated conference record of 10-0 and a 13-game winning streak.

The Hatters will find out who they face in the NCAA Tournament during the NCAA Selection Show, which takes place Monday, April 29, at 6 p.m.

“At the beginning of the season we had some players out because of injury,” Sandlant said. “We had to switch up our doubles lineup because of it. We got everyone healthy before conference started and made the pairs that we wanted. There were times I thought we might need to switch, but I put my trust in the group we have, and that doubles record was pretty good this year. We know if we get that doubles point it’s tough for the other team to take four singes from us.”

Here’s the recap, and results, of the ASUN Championship matches.
