• On the morning of Sept. 27, Jason Evans, PhD, professor of Environmental Science and Studies and executive director of Stetson’s Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience, appeared on FOX 35’s Good Day Orlando as part of Storm Surge: The power of hurricanes.

• In a Sept. 20 article titled “Health Care Trailblazer,” The Boca Raton Observer reported that the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation Southern Florida Chapter appointed Christine E. Lynn as recipient of its 2024 Hope Award. Lynn, a prominent businesswoman and health care philanthropist, has been a driving force in improving health care accessibility and quality — with numerous medical facilities, schools and community projects bearing her name. Lynn received an honorary degree from Stetson in 2008, and she has served on the Stetson University Board of Trustees since 1994.

• Rajni Shankar-Brown, professor and Jessie Ball duPont Distinguished Chair of Social Justice Education, was interviewed as part of the article “College students in Central Florida face poverty and homelessness,” published Sept. 25 by Central Florida Public Media. Shankar-Brown also is a Stetson alumna (MBA 2023), as well as an internationally acclaimed social and environmental justice educator, scholar, public policy shaper, activist, author and artist.

• On Sept. 21, Flagler Live and other outlets published “Stetson Receives National Recognition for Promoting Student Voter Engagement.” The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge recognized Stetson for excellence in its nonpartisan democratic engagement efforts that fostered high levels of student voter engagement in the 2022 midterm elections.

• Alumnus Peter Urscheler was featured in “2024 BSA VISTA Leadership Megastars – Peter Urscheler” by Vista.Today on Sept. 23. In the article, Urscheler, the mayor of the Borough of Phoenixville in Pennsylvania, describes his role as providing him with a unique opportunity to profoundly serve the community.

• As reported on Sept. 25 in The Observer News Enterprise and numerous other media outlets, Hilinski’s Hope Foundation announced that more than 250 schools and organizations will be participating in the fifth annual Student Athlete Mental Health Week, Oct. 5-12. Stetson is among the participating schools. Hilinski’s Hope Foundation is a 5013c non-profit founded by Mark and Kym Hilinski to honor the legacy of their son Tyler. The Health Week is the organization’s annual collective action dedicated to addressing the mental wellbeing of student-athletes and honor those who lost their lives.

• Alumnus Frederick Wittmann wrote the article “Fulgent Genetics: An NCAV Pick With Profit And Growth Potential (NASDAQ:FLGT), published in Seeking Alpha on Sept. 25. Wittmann received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Stetson. 

• Alumna Carol H. Lacy was featured in a review of “Jesus is the Amen: A Collection of Poetry and Prose with Drawings By Carol H. Lacy.” The article was published Sept. 19 by Alabama Now and other media outlets. Lacy received a bachelor’s degree from Stetson, summa cum laude, with a major in English.

• As reported in the Jacksonville Daily Record on Sept. 26, Wingard, a Jacksonville-based marketing and communications agency, announced the expansion of its ownership team with the appointment of Natalie DeYoung as an equity partner. DeYoung received a bachelor’s degree in English with a Journalism minor from Stetson.
