School of Music Dean Washington Garcia, PhD

• Washington Garcia, PhD, was profiled in Florida Trend’s October issue and online (Oct. 26) under the headline “From Hidden Gem to National Treasure” — The First Latin American Dean of Stetson University’s School of Music Envisions A New World-Class Performing Arts Center.

• On Oct. 22 in Florida Today, the article “Celebrated classical guitarist Stephen Robinson to perform at Florida Tech” shined a light on the former Stetson professor and founder of the university’s Guitar Program and International Guitar Workshop. Robinson was named a Stetson Professor Emeritus upon his retirement in 2021. The article also appear on MSN.com.

• As part of a blog series written by Stetson’s Andrew Joesoef and others, “Smart Rain Garden Series – How does filtration work?” explores how “smart” technology provides a live stream of useful data. Joesoef serves as a laboratory manager for both the Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience and the Department of Environmental Science and Studies.

Rowing success in Boston

• On Oct. 20, BVM Sports published the article “Hatters Secure Silver in Rowing at Head of the Charles Regatta,” reporting on how the Stetson men’s rowing team placed second in the 4+ event at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.

• On Oct. 23, alumnus Logan Gilbert was featured in the SI.com story “Seattle Mariners Ace Named Finalist For Impressive Award.” Gilbert, the Mariners top starting pitcher this past season, last starred for the Hatters in 2018.

• On Oct. 22, the article “Class Notes: All invited to play in Stetson’s first pickleball tournament,” published by the West Volusia Beacon, detailed the inaugural pickleball Stetson Women’s Basketball Tournament, scheduled to be played Saturday, Nov. 2, in Holly Hill.

• In the article “Canopy Mortgage Taps New Chief Financial Officer, published Oct. 18, alumna Brenda Hedeen was featured as a tenured chief financial officer. Hedeen earned her master’s in accounting from Stetson.

• Marker Trax, a pioneering cashless-payments company, announced Jennifer Galloway as its vice president and deputy counsel, as reported in the Oct. 23 article “Marker Trax Hires Jennifer Galloway as Vice President, Deputy Counsel,” published by Nevada Business Magazine.
