Stetson in the News: Sept. Oct. 4-17, 2024



• Rajni Shankar-Brown, PhD, was quoted in the Oct. 15 article “Central Florida schools consider makeup days for Milton,” published by Central Florida Public Media. Shankar-Brown is a professor and Jessie Ball duPont Endowed Chair of Social Justice Education.

• Steven Smallpage, PhD, was quoted in the Oct. 9 article “Consider recreation, social issues, taxes and elections on Florida ballot,” published by Hometown News Volusia. Smallpage is an associate professor of Political Science and director of Stetson’s Center for Public Opinion Research.
• Chris Ferguson, PhD, professor of Psychology, was cited in the article “Psychology experts find there’s ‘not enough evidence’ to link social media use to mental health problems,” published by Medical Xpress on Oct. 17.

• Melinda Hall, PhD, associate professor of Philosophy, was included in the Oct. 9 article “Philosophy, Disability and Social Change 5, Online, December 11-13, 2024: Final Program and Registration Information,” published online by Biopolitical Philosophy. Hall will help to facilitate a roundtable discussion about disabled philosophy faculty.
• On Oct. 17, Daniel James Scott, PhD, assistant professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship and director of the Joseph C. Prince Entrepreneurship Program, was featured in a WalletHub article about “best debt consolidation loans.”

• Wendy Anderson, PhD, professor of Environmental Science and Studies, was quoted in the Oct. 17 article “Will Volusia save more of its natural land?” published by The West Volusia Beacon.
• Stetson was featured in Florida Road Trip as part of an episode titled “DeLand,” which aired Oct. 12 on WUFT. The university’s history and city impact were among the topics.
• On Oct. 4, Daytona Beach News-Journal published “Stetson University, area officials to address Project 2025 at panel discussion.” The event was held Oct. 16, with Paul Croce, former professor and chair of American Studies, leading the discussion.

• Former Hatters standout Logan Gilbert was spotlighted in “FINAL GRADES: Logan Gilbert Has Become The Undisputed Seattle Mariners Ace,” published Oct. 16 by SI.com. Gilbert was an American League all-star this past season.
• Alumna Zoë Weaver-Lee was included in online promotional coverage of a panel discussion titled “Dealing with PRC Economic Influence through Grassroots and Government Action!” Weaver-Lee, a programs coordinator at the East-West Center in Washington, is among the panelists.
• As part of “Rome Symphony Orchestra Invites Guests to ‘Feel The Earth Move’ at Carole King Tribute,” published by the Rome News-Tribune on Oct. 5, alumna Katie Pinder Brown was cited as a special guest singer-pianist. Pinder Brown also created the entire Oct. 12 performance, her first such effort.
