Lila A. Jaber, a Stetson alumna and prominent Florida energy lawyer, began her term as Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees effective July 1.  

Jaber earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Stetson in 1988 and her Juris Doctor from Stetson College of Law in 1990. She was appointed to Stetson’s Board of Trustees in 2019 and chaired its Committee on Trusteeship. 

Named one of the most influential energy leaders in Florida, Jaber was twice appointed to the Florida Public Service Commission, where she served as both Commissioner and Chairman, overseeing the state’s utilities. 

She launched the Florida’s Women in Energy Leadership Forum to celebrate the success of women leaders in the energy industry and their role in growing Florida’s economy and diversifying the workforce. 

Currently, she owns her firm, LilaJaber Consulting, in Tallahassee and serves on the board of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation. 

Her new role as Chair of the Board of Trustees also was announced in Florida Trend magazine.

“Stetson has played a defining role in my life and career, equipping me with the knowledge, values and leadership skills that have guided me throughout my professional journey and opened doors to extraordinary opportunities,” Jaber said.  

“It is a tremendous honor to serve my alma mater in this role. Stetson’s future is exceptionally bright, and I look forward to working alongside my fellow trustees, President Roellke and our university community to ensure that future generations benefit from the same transformative education and experiences that have meant so much to me,” she said. 

Her more than 30 years of experience in regulatory policy and government affairs, as well as her longstanding support of the institution, make her exceptionally well qualified to lead the Board.
