Dean Michael Allen spoke on three panels at the International Elder Law Conference with a Veterans Focus sponsored by the
William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii with co-sponsorship by Stetson University College of Law. Dean Allen spoke about (1) the structure of the veterans benefits system in the United States; (2) benefits associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and dementia; and (3) the role of law school clinics focusing on veterans’ issues.
Jason Bent & Janice McClendon
Professors Jason Bent and Janice McClendon recently testified as experts before Florida’s Employer-Sponsored Benefits Study Task Force in Tallahassee on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The Task Force was created by a recently-enacted Florida statute that preempts local regulation of employee benefits (such as requiring that employers provide paid sick leave) in the private sector. The Task Force included Florida legislators, individuals in leadership positions at large and small Florida businesses, and representatives of labor unions.

Professor Becky Morgan and Professor Jason Palmer recently did a presentation on Health Care Decision Making for LBGT Patients as part of a day-long program titled “Building Awareness of the Needs of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Geriatric Patient/Resident/Client.” The program was co-sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas, Better Living for Seniors (BLS) Consortium, and St. Petersburg College.
