Carol spoke at the Louisana Judicial College Spring Conference in Lafayette, Louisiana, with Dr. Michael Baden on the "CSI Effect" on April 20. On April 23 and 24, Carol will be at the National Academy of Sciences in Chicago, where she has been invited to serve as a commentator at the meeting of the Committee on Identifying the Needs of the Forensic Science Community. She is also going to be interviewed by The New Yorker magazine for an article about forensic science.

Professor Hawkins-Leon has been selected as a speaker at the University of Akron symposium, "The New Face of Women’s Legal History," which will be held in October 2007. Papers will be published in a symposium issue of the Akron Law Review, and potentially in a collection of essays to be published by New York University press.

Pursuant to the strategic plan, the College of Law, as of June 1, 2007, is launching an Institute of Caribbean Law and Policy, as part of the Center for Excellence in International Law. Dorothea Beane and Darryl Wilson will serving as co-directors of the Institute.
