Stetson hosts Assoc. for Managers of Innovation

The Family Enterprise Center of Stetson University’s School of Business Administration will host the fall meeting of the Association for Managers of Innovation – an international conference at which managers from industry will share what they’re doing to facilitate innovation in their companies or organizations.

AMI’s Fall 2011 Meeting, “Generational Innovation: A Source for Inspiration and Change,” will be Oct. 26-28 at the Stetson University Center at Celebration near Disney World. Presiding over the meeting will be Stetson alumnus Dr. Stan Gryskiewicz, AMI founder and board chair. Stetson Dean of Business Dr. Stuart Michelson will also make opening remarks.

The central Florida university will present a pre-meeting workshop on “Innovation in the Family Enterprise: Reframing how you see this important economic engine,” facilitated by Dr.Greg McCann, founder and director of Stetson’s Family Enterprise Center.

Registered attendees will represent companies, nonprofit organizations and institutions of higher education including Colgate-Palmolive Co., Sodexo, Eastman Chemical Co., Carnegie Mellon University, the Pratt Institute, Centura Health-St. Mary Corwin Medical Center, Bank of America, Second Harvest Food Bank, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Crown Technology, Intellectual Assets Inc., Network Solutions, Bankers Financial Corp., Medtronic, Campbell Soup, Computer Science Corp., Armstrong World Industries, the Center for Creative Leadership and many others.

Presentation topics will include Triple Bottom Line as a New Paradigm, Does the Family Enterprise Trump Innovation or Triumph through Innovation?, and the Hidden Face of Poverty and Hunger in the U.S. – AMI Problem-Solving. Participants are also being offered the opportunity to volunteer at the Second Harvest Food Bank ofCentral Floridaduring the week.

AMI selects one of its members to host its Fall Meeting, and Stetson was honored to be picked this year, said McCann, an AMI member, author, professor and leader in family business nationally. Stetson’s family enterprise academic program was the nation’s second minor in the discipline (2002) and the nation’s first major (2004). “AMI continues to be on the cutting edge of innovation management because our members keep us there,” Gryskiewicz said. “We welcome the opportunity to bring AMI’s meeting to Stetson University, where the culture, leadership and commitment to innovation resonate with our membership.”
