Stetson undergraduates prepare to display the results of their hard work as the annual SHOWCASE approaches. The Stetson undergraduate research event will be held all day on Tuesday, April 15, beginning at 9 a.m. In addition to undergraduate research, additional events and presentations have been added to this year’s event in order to shine even more light on Stetson student research.

For the first time in the symposium’s history, four graduate students along with their professors from different graduate schools will be presenting in special “Brown Bag Lunch” sessions. They will offer advice on how to wisely further one’s education after graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Stetson.

Since 1999, the Stetson University SHOWCASE has highlighted undergraduate research and creative projects representing the academic disciplines across the DeLand campus. Classes will be cancelled Tuesday, enabling students to attend the various presentations across campus. All events are open to the campus community and to members of the public, free of charge.

SHOWCASE will be made up of five sessions of oral presentations to be held in front of judges, students, faculty, and staff. Presentations will be held in Elizabeth Hall, Hollis Center, the Hand Art Center, and the Lynn Business Center. Junior music recitals will be performed in Lee Chapel inside Elizabeth Hall. The Hollis Center lobby will be the location for poster presentations.

This year’s keynote speaker is Gregory Young, director of Montana State School of Music. Young will speak at 6:15 p.m., in the Stetson Room, second floor of the Carlton Union Building. Young was Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and founding director of the Undergraduate Scholars Program and started the MSU McNair Scholars Program.  He has served as assistant dean of the College of Arts & Architecture, principal clarinetist with the Bozeman Symphony and the Intermountain Opera Orchestras, and as chairman of the National Conferences on Undergraduate Research. He has accumulated numerous honors throughout his career as both a concert performer and an educator.

Feedback, a Digital Arts Exhibition of digital audio, interactive installations, visual pieces, and other forms of digital art, will be displayed in Stetson’s Hand Art Center, 139 E. Michigan Ave., from 7-9 p.m. Feedback  replaces the former ‘Festival of Moving Images.’  The gallery exhibition will run until April 26. The public is invited to the opening reception at the Hand Art Center, scheduled to be the conclusion of Stetson SHOWCASE. 

Stetson students who attend SHOWCASE can earn a maximum of three cultural credits. SHOWCASE tickets must be stamped by the symposium representative at each event. To receive credit, students need to turn their cards in at any of the following locations by Wednesday, April 16, by 4 p.m.: CUB Lobby, Elizabeth Hall, room 312, or the lobby in Hollis Health and Wellness Center.
