Campus Update: Students Returning, Residence Halls Open

Campus scene with tree debris on sidewalk

This will be our final post-Hurricane Matthew update.

All residence halls are now open for students returning to campus. There are cleanup activities continuing across campus, but most facilities are operational as of Tuesday morning.

Counseling, Community Engagement and the Cross Cultural Center are now functional and expect to resume operations later today. Health Service will resume regular hours of operation Wednesday, Oct. 12. The Hollis Center will operate a limited schedule as follows starting on Wednesday, Oct. 12:

  • Wednesday – Friday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4:30-7 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

There are numerous refrigerators across campus and the university asks students and staff to clean out any items that might have remained over the course of the recent storm. The university was without power for several days.

The university offers a heartfelt “thank you” to Facilities Management, Public Safety, Housing and Residential Life, Information Technology, Dining Services and all university personnel and associated services staff for their efforts before, during and after Hurricane Matthew. We also note the outpouring of offers of assistance and help from the Stetson Community. Thank you for any help you provided to our students and the university and for keeping us in your thoughts and wishes.

Dining Services has returned to its regular schedule. Johnny Rockets, the Coffee Shop and Outtakes will re-open on Sunday, Oct. 16.

The duPont-Ball Library will be open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11, through Thursday, Oct. 13, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 14.

The Provost search process resumes on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Although classes will not be in session on Wednesday, Oct. 12, there will be a faculty forum meeting with the Provost candidate from 1:30-2:45 p.m., and faculty, staff and any students on campus are invited to attend an open forum with the provost candidate on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 3:45-4:45 p.m., in the LBC Rinker Auditorium, Room 108.

Stetson University expects that students returning to campus will follow the Code of Community Standards and that, regardless of resident’s age, the residence halls and apartments are dry from all alcohol. Once classes resume on Monday, Oct. 17, the residence halls will revert back to usage policies as defined in the Code of Community Standards.
