Quarantine Changes, COVID-19 Reporting and a Call for Gateway Testing Volunteers

Safer Campus Task Force Updates

Stetson University is committed to a multipronged COVID-19 mitigation strategy using a combination of testing, screening, facial coverings, physical distancing, and changes to facilities to protect the health and welfare of our students and employees. Frequent voluntary and mandatory testing opportunities is a key factor.

Changes to CDC and DOH Quarantine Protocol
The CDC and Florida DOH have modified quarantine guidance for the asymptomatic close contact exposure group. Quarantine is intended to reduce the risk that infected persons might unknowingly transmit infection to others and ensures persons who may become symptomatic can be rapidly brought to care and evaluated. This change reduces the total days required for quarantine on campus while still providing effective safeguarding measures to protect our community.

Quarantine for this group is now:

  • 10 days from exposure; or
  • 7 days from exposure with a negative PCR test within the last 48 hours (testing on day 5 or 6).

Isolation for COVID-19 positive individuals remains at 10 days from a positive test or initial onset of symptoms. You must be 24-hour fever and major respiratory symptom free to end isolation.

COVID-19 Reporting Over Winter Break
Stetson community members are reminded to report test results through www2.stetson.edu/reportit if you are COVID-19 positive, symptomatic or exposed, particularly in the 14 days after you leave campus. This helps protect the health of your fellow Hatters. In addition, reporting positive results over break helps us to better care for your needs if you have an exposure in the spring semester and to exempt you (with documentation) from Gateway Testing. Also, we are still here to help you navigate testing and healthcare recommendations even if you are no longer in DeLand.

COVID-19 Related Leave Program Extended
The university has extended the COVID-19 Related Leave Program until March 31, 2021, for employees who have not already exhausted their COVID-19 leave allowance (80 hours). COVID-19 related leave can be accessed for the following reasons:

  • A staff member is subject to a federal, state, or local quarantine or isolation order regarding COVID-19.
  • A staff member has been advised by a health-care provider to self-quarantine due to concerns related to COVID-19 and has medical documentation.
  • A staff member has medically documented symptoms of COVID-19.
  • A staff member is caring for an individual subject to the qualifying events listed above and has medical documentation to that effect.

Gateway Testing Volunteers Needed
The SCTF Screening and Testing Subgroup is looking for volunteers to assist with Gateway Testing, testing compliance and spring on-going testing. These volunteers will help with the check-in process, record results and communicate next steps to participants. There are protective measures in place to safeguard volunteers including physical barriers, protective equipment (gloves, masks) and a process that does not involve contact or the exchange of materials. The most important responsibility for volunteers is to be friendly and help individuals navigate the sometimes-overwhelming testing process. Please sign-up at Volunteer Sign-Up
