On Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at 7 p.m. in Room 25 of the Instructional Media Center, Dr. Roberta Smith Favis will discuss the exhibition, Oscar Bluemner: Color Sketches, that is now on display in the Hand Art Center.
The exhibit features colorful artworks from the time when the artist was solidifying his decision to abandon his architectural career in favor of painting.
Dr. Favis is Curator of the Vera Bluemner Kouba Collection and Professor Emerita of Art History at Stetson. Her talk will review the history of Stetson’s extensive collection of works by American Modernist Painter Oscar Bluemner (1867-1938) and discuss the importance of the colored pencil sketches made in 1910-1911 in the evolution of the artist.
Following Dr. Favis’ presentation, the Hand Art Center will be open from 8-9 p.m. so that attendees may see the Oscar Bluemner: Color Sketches exhibit.
