Maura Martin (2013) created a photo collage entitled Three Years Old as part of her senior thesis in ARTS 499 taught by Gary Bolding.
In her artist statement, she explains: “I started to look at the old photographs of her, studying them, feeling the aged crinkles and rips of the surface with my fingertips. I was jealous of the child who became my mother. I was jealous of her happiness, her smiles and laughter. Home Sweet Home explores a deeply personal love triangle where the relationship I have with my grandmother is a misplaced mother-daughter connection, while my ties with my biological mother dissipate into a ghostly presence.”
