The J. Ben Watkins Award honors individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and accomplishment in the legal community.

Henson is an associate director in the Office of Career and Professional Development at Stetson University College of Law where he coaches students and graduates to find work and workplaces that give them the long-term career satisfaction and fulfillment they need to thrive in their careers. During his time at Stetson, among the thousands of students and graduates he has coached, he has worked with 181 of the 237 members of the Stetson Law Review, including 95 editors.

“The opportunity to help you find work that gives you satisfaction and fulfillment, so that you will go out and help more people in this world, is the point of it all. This honor tonight recognizes the crucial importance of purpose – and the value of those who help lawyers seek and find it – to the success of our profession,” Henson said at the banquet.

This year, Henson was also appointed to two positions with the National Association of Law Placement, was selected to co-present at the 2018 NALP Annual Education Conference, and is treasurer-elect of the South Florida Association for Law Placement.

The award is presented annually in honor of the late J. Ben Watkins LL.B. ’49, a member of the Stetson Law Board of Overseers who helped found the Stetson Law Review. Previous recipients of this prestigious award include outstanding members of the judiciary and bar leadership.
