Tennis teams earn ITA academic honors

Carolina MeregalliThe Stetson men’s and women’s tennis programs were recently honored with both team and individual academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The ITA’s All-Academic Team awards are given to programs that have a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above. This marks the sixth consecutive year that the men’s team has made the list, and its ninth overall. The women’s squad has earned the honor seven times overall, and this is the third in a row for the program.

“Receiving the ITA All-Academic Award is a very important goal for both our of tennis programs each year,” said Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote. “Although it is expected of both of our teams to make the lists yearly, Stetson’s rigorous curriculum makes it very challenging to accomplish this feat.”

In addition to the team awards, nine total Stetson tennis players were also named ITA Scholar-Athletes after achieving GPAs of 3.50 or higher during this past academic year.

Since 1998, a total of 65 Stetson men’s team members have been named ITA Scholar-Athletes. A total of 44 Stetson women’s team members have been honored since 2003.
