James Vincent Dell’Aquila, 82, passed away March 2, 2017 at Ridgecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation in Deland FL where he had been a resident since July 2011. Jim was born in the Bronx NY to Vincent and Lena (D’Angelo) Dell’Aquila. Raised in Suffern NY, he graduated in 1956 from Clarkson Memorial College of Technology as an electrical engineer. Jim worked for General Electric at Cape Canaveral on the Apollo project until 1969. After active duty in the US Navy, he was a reservist for 20 years retiring as a Lt. Commander. Jim earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Business Administration at Stetson University in Deland where he also volunteered backstage at Stover Theatre. He became a teacher of 12th grade mathematics in Deland High School retiring after almost 15 years.

During his lifetime, Jim enjoyed boating, exercise at the Deland YMCA, woodworking, and his motorcycle. Jim is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Robert Corliss. He is survived by his sister Arlene “Tippy” Corliss of Dunnellon FL, his nephew Jeffrey L. Corliss, Westport CT, Jeffrey’s sons Mackenzie and Tyler Corliss and his dear friend Mary Hurley and her daughters.A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 18th, 2017, 11am at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 319 W. Wisconsin Ave, Deland FL. Burial will be at a later date in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims FL.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deland YMCA.
