I.T. Fall Update
The Information Technology department has been hard at work during the break. We constantly work on our systems to ensure they perform well and can meet demands of our community. As we move forward with the start of our Spring session, we wanted to share a brief list of updates.
- Core network upgrade: Our core is the heart of our network. The new system is faster, more secure, and increased reliability.
- Fiber Infrastructure upgrade: Fiber connects all our campus locations together and essentially transport data to/from your computer to our servers and the internet. We can now reliably transfer data 10 times faster throughout our network!
- Battery Backup (UPS): Just like our employee computers, a UPS system protects the system from unexpected outages. Our Core and Server systems UPS equipment were upgraded to provide better protection and longer running times.
Student printing system (Paper-Cut) Updates
- All printers in the Gulfport and Tampa library were upgraded to support color and faster printing.
- A new print queue “MobilePrint” was created to support color printing. The new setup will detect black/white and color pages and charge accordingly.
- Note: There will be an option on the printer screen where you can select to print all the pages in black/white (gray scale).
A separate email will go out to students to provide information on how to connect to the new printer setup. Students can also stop by our helpdesk for help with printer setup.
- We now support secure printing using your Stetson ID card. This means that to release your print jobs, you no longer need to manually enter your 8-digit pin. A simple swipe will login to your account to release your print job.
As always, we appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we continue to improve our systems and welcome recommendations and feedback.
