Advanced Legal Writing: Legal Writing with Generative AI, Fall 2025
Dr. Kirsten Davis, a national voice on the topic of legal writing and generative artificial intelligence, invites students to explore the fundamentals of generative AI, its current status in the legal market, its strengths and limitations for legal writing, techniques to enhance legal communication both with and without AI, ethical considerations, and more. No prior experience with generative AI is needed.
Thoughts from Students Who Took the Class (shared with permission):
Dr. Davis’s generative AI class helps ensure students have a baseline foundation in the most relevant generative AI tools. The class also focuses on enhancing students’ understanding of ethical issues surrounding the use of generative AI as well as providing numerous hands-on opportunities for exploring generative AI tools. Most of all, the class allows each student to get what they individually want out of the class, with great importance placed on catering to each individual’s interest in the field of generative AI. I highly recommend this class to those who want to understand the next wave of technology and to those who want to ensure they are practice ready from a technological perspective. —3L
Professor Davis’s entry-level Artificial Intelligence course is a strategic game-changer for any law student. In one semester I learned how to design, prompt, and deploy legal-specific AI models that solve real-world client problems. Skills that forward-thinking firms already expect in new hires. . . . Mastering AI-driven research, drafting, and analytics not only differentiates me from other applicants, it also equips me to serve clients more efficiently and ethically. —3L
This course has given me a greater sense of confidence as I begin the first weeks of my summer externship. I now feel prepared to use AI tools professionally when appropriate. I also feel able to contribute a unique set of skills that are not typically taught in law school. In today’s world, technology is a major component of almost every profession. Taking advantage of the resources offered by Stetson Law, such as this AI course, can support your growth in ways you may not realize until you reflect on your academic journey. The course was never overwhelming in terms of workload, but it remained consistently engaging and intellectually stimulating. —2L
