Law School and Identity Event ~ Diversity Week

March 8, 2023 @ 12:05 pm - 12:55 pm

Law school is a difficult and challenging experience for all those who attend it. However, there may be additional challenges based on what your identity is as a student. A student who is a Black female will have a different experience in law school than one who is a white male. A student who comes from a low income household may have to work outside jobs while working fulltime to make ends meet, while one who comes from a higher income household may never have to worry about this. All these pressures influence your ability to focus, study, and succeed in law school, as well as a students feeling of belongingness while in law school. As a sociology major, I would like to, along with other peers from differing backgrounds, put on a PowerPoint presentation on this topic and have students speak about their experience. The goal for this event would be to raise awareness to the issue of intersectionality as well as how identity affects mental health in law school. This event would also be held during diversity week at Stetson Law.
