First-Year Students: An Opportunity to Learn About Oral Advocacy Before R&W II

First-year students, consider participating in the Ninth Annual Chief Justice First-Year Oral Argument Competition on September 30–October 1.

Who? This competition is open to first-year students who started law school in the fall 2022.

What? The competition involves a five-minute oral argument based on a fact pattern and a closed universe. (No outside research needs to be done.)

When? Friday evening, September 30 and Saturday afternoon/early evening, October 1.

Where? On Zoom.

Why? To have an opportunity to learn a little bit about oral advocacy before R&W II; to get a glimpse of part of what Moot Court Board members do; and to have fun!

A 2019 participant and recent graduate said, “If there is a single 1L opportunity that I am glad I invested my time in, it’s the First-Year Oral Argument Competition. The return on investment was huge! After the Competition, I had an easier time understanding class readings and legal arguments across the board.”

For more information, visit the competition TWEN page–Stetson’s Chief Justice First-Year Oral Argument Competition. On the TWEN page, you will find three webcasts and the local rules, as well as information about registering for the competition and testimonials from past participants.

And Professor Bowman will be holding a live Q&A session on Wednesday, September 16, at 6:30 p.m.
