How To Get Involved In MLK Day Celebrations

MLK Day is a time to get involved in your community to celebrate the life and legacy of civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Through collective action, Dr. King and his advisors inspired communities across the nation to evoke mass social change. Stetson University College of Law encourages students, faculty, and staff to engage in the following thoughtfully curated local events in the St. Petersburg area to honor his impact. 

MLK Day Weekend, January 14 – 16
During MLK Day weekend, the Advantage Village Academy is hosting four free events: The MLK Music and Art Festival, Family Fun Day, MLK Band Showcase, and a Community Gospel Concert.

Monday, January 16
Walk in the MLK Day Parade with Stetson University College of Law and the Black Law Student Association. 

The parade begins at 11AM, but all participants must be present to check in starting at 8:30AM. The parade route will be approximately 1.5 miles. Carpool will be provided. 
Location: The check – in area is at the intersection of 4th Avenue South and 1st Street South. The parade route is East to West on 1st Avenue South St. Petersburg, FL.
Time: Check – in 8:30 a.m., Parade Starts at 11:00 a.m.

Tuesday, January 17
We Belong: National Day of Racial Healing

The St. Petersburg/Pinellas Higher Education for Racial Equity Consortium (SPHERE) and the Well are hosting an immersive healing experience featuring dynamic panelists, engaging dialogues, creative expressions, and a call to action.
