Lambda Legal Society; Florida Law and Drag Fundraiser
Hello,
I would like to highlight the significance of a forthcoming event presented by Lambda Legal Society; Florida Law and Drag Fundraiser this Friday, November 3 from 6-8pm in the Great Hall. This occasion represents a historic milestone for Lambda, as it stands to be the largest networking event in the organization’s history. During alumni Edson Abadia Jr.’s tenure, he initiated the first PRIDE Scholarship for Lambda. Regrettably, this scholarship, designed to provide financial support to LGBTQ+ community members actively engaged on our campus, remains un-endowed. However, Lambda is fully dedicated to achieving the full $25,000 endowment for the scholarship. We are highly optimistic that this event will serve as a significant step toward realizing this goal, ultimately providing invaluable support to our current 1L students and those who will follow in their footsteps.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Lambda Legal Society, Student Affairs, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and our dedicated Alumni and Development Department, we have embarked on the path to secure funding for this scholarship. Several LGBTQ+ allied law firms, community organizations, and our own faculty have pledged their support to the scholarship and their generous contributions will be acknowledged during the event. Our hope is that their commitment will inspire others to contribute similarly until the scholarship is fully funded.
In addition to the scholarship, alumni Nathan Bruemmer will be delivering a concise yet insightful discussion on the current state of Florida Law and its influence on matters related to gender identity and expression. This will be directly followed by an exciting evening of live entertainment featuring four outstanding local drag artists. Lambda played a pioneering role in bringing the first drag show to Stetson earlier this year during Diversity Week with our annual Spelling Bee, ABCs with the LGBT. This time, these talented artists will have creative freedom and we are honored to host them here in our campus community.
Carrabba’s Italian Grill will be providing full catering for the event (dessert, non-alcoholic drinks, and vegetarian options included!) This gathering is open to the public, and an RSVP link was created that anyone can access.
Please consider joining us for this remarkable event; your presence would be greatly appreciated. You can RSVP here: https://floridalawanddrag.RSVPify.com.
My best,
Hunter Wolf
