New Certificate of Concentration in Criminal Law

The Faculty of Stetson College of Law has approved a Certificate of Concentration in Criminal Law, beginning in the Fall of 2025.   The Criminal law Concentration Committee, (Professors Podgor, Rozelle, Scully, and Flowers)  is excited to welcome applications beginning in July 2025.  The requirements for admission into the concentration are as follows:

“Any Stetson law student in good standing who has completed not less than 30 credits and not more than 45 credits may apply for acceptance into a concentration program. Students may obtain an application using the links on the registrars’ page. The completed application should be submitted to the Registrar’s Office. The Registrar’s Office will forward the application and a copy of the student’s transcript to the committee.  The Concentration Committee will make the final determination on all applications for acceptance into the program based upon consideration of the student’s demonstrated commitment to the program and the likelihood that the student will be able to successfully complete the requirements of the program.  Students must have achieved at least a 2.5 in the following courses: Evidence, Criminal Law, R & W I and II, and Professional Responsibility. A student who has not completed any of these courses must be enrolled in the course at the time of acceptance into the concentration and must achieve the required grade in these courses or the student will be excluded from the concentration.”

This is a concentration in the substantive area of criminal law.  It is a great addition to a Certificate of Concentration in Advocacy or Social Justice Advocacy, which can be pursued concurrently.  Many of the electives in the Advocacy and Social Justice Concentrations are included in the Criminal law Concentration.  Students will be assigned a faculty advisor, who can help create a schedule to complete multiple concentrations.  We hope you will consider this great opportunity to be mentored by criminal law faculty members and practitioners, as you pursue your career in the exciting and rewarding area of criminal law.   If you have questions, you can contact Professor Rozelle or Professor Flowers.
