Non-Legal Pro Bono Opportunity at Gibbs High School

The Amari Burney Foundation is looking for Stetson law students to volunteer as tutors for Gibbs High School Football Team members. The foundation, a non-profit based in St. Petersburg, focuses on empowering youth football players through academic mentorship and personal growth opportunities. Their goal is to develop resilient athletes who excel both on and off the field.

About the opportunity: Tutoring will take place at Gibbs High School (850 34th St. S), Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The program will be organized by subject or grade level, and student volunteers will be assigned to the groups they feel most comfortable in. Priority subjects include English Language Arts, Spanish, and Math. Tutoring is available only on school days, so please check the Gibbs High School Academic Calendar before confirming your availability.

To express interest: Students must confirm their availability with Samantha Harrison ([email protected]) at least 48 hours before the session they want to attend. Gibbs High can accommodate up to 5 Stetson students per day. If spots are full, you may be offered another date. Please do not go to Gibbs High School without confirmation, as you may be turned away. Hours are eligible for non-legal pro bono credit. Questions? Contact Samantha Harrison ([email protected]).
