Phase 2 Fountain Restoration
On June 19th we will be starting Phase 2 of the Fountain Renovation Project. The overall goal of the project is to update the four fountains in the Plaza Mayor with modernized plumbing while preserving the historical significance. These four fountains were designed for the original Rolyat Hotel and feature hand-painted Spanish tiles. We have teamed up with a company to restore the hand-painted tiles, but unfortunately that means we must remove the tiles for a time and then replace the tiles when complete. In addition to updating the fountains, we are also beatifying the Plaza Mayor with brick paver walkways.
During this process temporary construction fencing will be placed around the inner portion of the Plaza Mayor. All dorms, offices, and suites around the outside of the Plaza Mayor will still be accessible by sidewalks, however the entire courtyard area inside the fencing will be off limits. The fencing will go up on June 19, 2023, and will remain in place until September 30, 2023, at which time we will remove the perimeter fencing and all that will remain is fencing around each individual fountain until April 30, 2024, when the project is complete.
