Priority Deadline Approaching to Apply to the AbbVie 1L Patent Summer Internship!

AbbVie, a biopharmaceutical company based in North Chicago, Illinois, has 1L internship positions in our patent law department both in Illinois and in Worcester, MA.

Interns will be immersed in AbbVie’s in-house patent prosecution and litigation legal team learning about, and handling, real-world patent matters in close coordination with AbbVie attorneys. 

Interns will have substantive exposure to a wide variety of prosecution and litigation-related tasks under the supervision of AbbVie attorneys, which may include managing a patent prosecution docket, performing opinion work, analyzing freedom-to-operate issues, drafting contracts, evaluating issues related to biopharmaceutical patent litigation, observing litigation events such as hearings or depositions, and participating in strategy meetings with in-house and outside counsel.  Interns will also receive support to help prepare them for the patent bar examination before the USPTO.

The internship is 10 weeks long and pays $1,400 per week.  The goal for 2022 is an in-person internship and, assuming so, housing assistance may be available for non-local students. 

We are looking for 1L students with a demonstrated interest in and support of diversity and inclusion and an interest in patent law (with preference given to students with science or engineering degrees).
