What is the Job Fair:  Formerly known as SEMJF, SELSC is the Southeastern Law School Consortium Job Fair, a legal interview program bringing together employers from all across the country – one of the oldest and largest events of its kind. Find out more on the SELSC website: https://selscon.org/

Who may participateANY rising 2L, 3L, or recent graduate. I repeat, recent graduates are eligible!  SELSC registration is open to all applicants – please note a resume and a Candidate Statement are required for every application. The prompt for your Candidate Statement: Discuss your academic, professional and life experiences, focusing on your ability to persevere, overcome challenges, and contribute to the legal profession. The Deadline to register for the Southeastern Law School Consortium Job Fair (SELSC) is Thursday, May 9, 2024.

Why:  Look at the list of employers who participated last year.

  • If you are a 1L or 2L, this is an early start, and consolidated opportunity to connect with firms and employers looking at 2025 summer associate positions, or early 2025 hiring. In addition, the exposure to regional and national firms and employers in a single setting is unsurpassed.
  • If you are a 3L looking for work, there are employers here looking for you – take advantage of this. Do not preselect out of registering because the Bar is in close proximity – apply and adjust your study schedule if you are selected for an interview (We can work jointly with Bar Prep to help you with this)
    • Last year there were over 30 employers committed to participating who are looking for recent grads, across industry sectors. Multiple graduates from last year’s class secured employment through this job fair.
  • If you want to look outside of Florida – these employers are hiring nation-wide.
  • If you want to clerk, there may be judicial interview opportunities.
  • If you want big law, big law will be here and hiring nation-wide.
  • If you want advocacy, there are opportunities for you to explore.
  • State Attorneys, Public defenders, legal aid and other non-profits – all here.
  • Business and transaction positions – yes!

But I have a job (For 1L summer, or 2L summer)

Register and apply anyway. This is a fantastic depth and breadth of employers, ALL in one Location. You can network, explore opportunities, and gather information.

How to Register:

Here is the easy part. At this point, to Register, all we need from you is completion of the SELSC Intent form. You must register by THURSDAY, MAY 9th.

We provide these details to the SELSC organizing committee, who will follow up with further details on application procedures, including a username and password to access the SELSC specific Symplicity system.

Deadline today – Loyola University Chicago Law 2024 Patent Law Interview Program Registration

Loyola University Chicago School of Law is hosting the 2024 Patent Law Interview Program on Thursday and Friday, July 18-19.  This nationwide interview program targets patent law employers and rising 2L and 3L students. The 2024 Patent Law Interview Program Interviews will be held VIRTUALLY.

Last year roughly 130 employers, 190 law schools, and nearly 1,000 law students from across the country participated in the program.  The program is entirely pre-selected, which means that students submit application materials to apply to interviews with the employers they are interested in, and employers then review their materials and select the students they wish to interview at the program. Last year, approximately half of the participating students were selected for interviews.

Students with undergraduate or graduate degrees in engineering or a technical science should consider registering for the program.  You do not need to be patent bar eligible to register, although the vast majority of employers participating in the program are seeking patent bar eligible students. For more information on the program, please refer to the Loyola Patent Program website

Online student registration for this year’s Patent Law Interview Program is now open and will close today, Wednesday, March 27. Students can register at Loyola Patent Registration Link.

At this stage of registration, you will only need to enter some basic information (you will upload your resume and bid on interviews later in the semester).

There is a non-refundable $50 registration fee that you must pay by credit card to complete your online registration.  Please have your credit card ready when you register.

Once you have registered, the program staff will communicate with you directly via email to the address that you entered when registering for the program. The Patent Law Interview Program liaison for Stetson University College of Law is: Ryan Hoyle, Office of Career and Professional Development: [email protected]. If you have any questions about the Patent Law Interview Program, please reach out to Ryan.

Career Fair Updates

The Stetson Law Career Fair is less than four weeks away – March 26, 2024! We have over 50 employers registered to attend with representative participation from big law, small firms, boutique practices, government agencies and public interest/legal aid organizations. These employers are looking for post-graduate attorneys, summer associates, school year clerks, and a chance to get to know you!

Here are some essential items to know:

Stetson Law Career Fair
March 26, 2024
11:00am – 2:00pm
Great Hall and Mann Lounge

Registration

If you have not yet registered, there is still time! The fair is open to ALL Stetson students: 1L, 2L, 3L and part-timers, whether you have a job and/or are looking. Register Here

If you are among the first 250 students to register, your padfolio will be available in the Great Hall beginning at 11:00 a.m. and running until 2 p.m. A reminder – you must attend the Career Fair to collect your padfolio.

You may also obtain an attractive, Stetson embossed, paper folder to house and protect your resumes—stop by the Office of Career and Professional Development to pick one up.

Dress

We recommend professional/business dress for the Fair. If you are more comfortable in business casual, dress accordingly rather than stay away.  Even if you are not seeking employment right now, this is a great chance to network, locate a mentor, meet new friends, ask your questions, explore possibilities, and broadly experience the community of local lawyers and employers you want to be a part of.  They are here to meet you.

Resumes

If you haven’t updated your resume and your LinkedIn profile, now’s a good time to do that!  We recommend you print and bring copies of your current resume with you, though it is not required.  Review the templates and standards for resumes located in the document library on Symplicity, and we’d be happy to review your resume in time for use at the Career Fair, if you email it to [email protected] or to a member of the Career Development Team by Friday, March 31.

Find a list of Employers participating in the Career Fair HERE

We look forward to seeing you at the Career Fair!

Career Fair: Know Before You Go

Experience the Stetson Law Career Fair on March 26, 2024, Sponsored by the Office of Career and Professional Development and the Student Bar Association along with our Campus to Career Sponsors. RSVP HERE

Things To Know Before You Go:

Over 50 employers are going to be present, looking for connections to 1L, 2L, and 3L for summer jobs, school year jobs, and post-graduation jobs (full time jobs and part time jobs, remote, hybrid, and on-site).  Employers of all kinds will participate—private and public, large and small, and a variety of services and practice areas. Learn more about the employers registered to be on campus HERE.

The first 250 students to register for and attend the Career Fair will receive an embossed Stetson Law padfolio.  The padfolio will be handed to you at check-in.

If you plan to offer your resume to employers, you should plan to review your resume with a coach from the Office of Career and Professional Development, either via email or a short virtual or in-person conference.  You can find resume templates and tips in the Document Library on Symplicity.

Business, Business Casual, or Whatever are the dress of the day.  We’d all rather you participated than avoid the opportunity because you didn’t dress for it.

We’ll be giving away 50 $10 tickets for the Food Truck Event happening at the same time; stay tuned for details.

Even if you don’t know exactly what you want to do, participate, and ask your questions of our employer guests.  You don’t have to give a resume to every table, but you can if you want to.  You don’t even have to bring a resume; you are welcome to come to the Career fair to ask your questions.

You don’t have to come at the beginning of the event, and you don’t have to stay for the whole event.  You can come and go as you please!

Kozyak Minority Mentoring Foundation Summer Fellowship Program

Who May Apply?

First or second year law students who are enrolled in a Florida law school or are verified Florida residents attending an out-of-state law school. Additional information is available on the form page.

How Do I Apply?

Completely fill out the application form and submit the required documents. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeTgbhJbNksYpCjs2ne3FR9jKV1x6lQMY8hKzUnBiLnsI7WFQ/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1&flr=0

2024 APPLICATION DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 26, 2024 at 5:00 PM.

John W. Kozyak grew up in a totally segregated community near St. Louis and was in high school when the 1964 Civil Rights Legislation was implemented. John moved to Miami in 1974 for a summer clerkship without knowing a person and was fortunate enough to be hired by two well known, respected lawyers, who were wonderful mentors. John credits his success in the legal profession to the strong mentoring relationships he developed. Throughout his career, John noticed the lack of diversity in the legal profession. John believed that mentoring was a powerful tool in addressing the need to improve diversity in the legal profession for all minority groups and particularly African-American lawyers.

John became an active mentor years ago and in 2002, he created his own mentoring program to match minority law students with experienced lawyers and judges in the legal community. Later, John, along with his law partner, Detra Shaw-Wilder, formed the Kozyak Minority Mentoring Foundation to strengthen and grow his efforts to use mentoring as a platform to increase diversity in the legal profession. Although much of John’s early efforts were dedicated to providing mentors for black law students, the Foundation provides opportunities for all minority law students. The Foundation has close ties to the Cuban-American Bar Association (“CABA”), the Florida Association of Women Lawyers (“FAWL”), Haitian Lawyers, Caribbean Lawyers Association, the Gay & Lesbian Lawyers Association, Florida Muslim Lawyers, the National Hispanic Bar Association and many other voluntary bar associations.

For 13 years the Foundation hosted an annual picnic, which grew and grew to approximately 5000 people in 2016. The KMMF now concentrates on smaller receptions and meetings to provide more direct input.
