Tomorrow: Decorate Ornaments with BLSA

The Black Law Students Association and the Student Health and Wellness Committee invite students, faculty, and staff to decorate ornaments, dreidels, or diya lanterns!

Come drink hot cocoa and eat snacks while we take a much needed break and decorate together! If you decorate a diya, you’ll receive 5 lavender tea candles for your diya!

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 through October 15 by celebrating the national independence, diverse histories, cultures, and achievements of Hispanic and Latinx communities around the globe. We invite all Stetson Law students and employees to join the celebration by attending events thoughtfully curated by the Hispanic Bar Association in collaboration with many other student organizations and the local events happening in the St.Petersburg/Tampa Bay area. Please join this free networking and learning opportunity for law students hosted by the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Federal Bar Association on August 24. Happy Pride Month

The Honorable Sabrina Mckenna is the first openly LGBTQ+ judge to sit on the Hawaii Supreme Court. Judge Mckenna advocates to make the Hawaii court rules and jury instructions non-binary and makes her opinions non-binary. A Portrait of Asian Americans in the Law 2.0

Join us for a discussion with the authors, Justice Goodwin Liu, Tyler Dang, and Benji Lu of “A Portrait of Asian Americans in the Law 2.0”. This conversation will explore the reasons for and potential solutions to the current challenges facing the Asian American legal community. The project aims to provide an empirical grounding for broader conversation within and beyond the Asian American community about the challenges and opportunities Asian Americans face in the legal profession and possible directions for reform.

The Asian American Law Student Association invites the whole Stetson Law community to join the conversation to create a bridge of understanding. This event is in commemoration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Month occurring in May.

KCMBA Annual Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair August 12-August 13

As the new director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association I am pleased to announce that this year we will be hosting in-person the Annual Heartland Diversity Job Fair (HDLJF) August 12, 2022 – August 13, 2022, here at KCMBA headquarters! 

Below is a quick overview of events, how to register, and accommodations.  We have also produced brochures and would be happy to mail to you, student affinity groups, and students directly.

Registration

  • To register for the event, please visit law-kcmba.csm.symplicity.com/students.  Please note that there is no fee for students to register.
  • Early bird registration deadline is May 31, 2022. 
  • Registration forms are available in PDF format. Should you be aware of students who might need support accessing online registration, I am happy to help support them through the process.
  • Student registration deadline is June 28, 2022.

Friday, August 12, 2022  — We will kick off the event with registration, a diversity panel discussion featuring some of Kansas City’s finest diverse legal professionals, and a welcome reception at KCMBA Headquarters. Registration will continue on Saturday.

Saturday, August 13, 2022 — The interview process will be conducted on a 50/50 scale.  Employers will pre-select half of the students whom they wish to interview.  The remaining half of the interview schedule will be filled based on lottery.  All interviews will be conducted at KMBA.

Freeborn & Peters LLP Diversity Scholarship Award

Program Summary
At Freeborn, we believe that people with different backgrounds and cultures make us stronger
as an organization and allows us to deliver better results for our clients. We created our
Diversity Scholarship Award to continue our commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse
and inclusive working environment throughout our firm and strengthen diversity and inclusion in
the practice of law.

Freeborn will award $5,000 to eligible 2nd and 3rd year law students, payable toward law
school tuition or other school-related expenses.

Eligibility
Rising 2L and 3L law students who meet the selection criteria and have entered into a JD
program at an ABA-accredited law school in the U.S. are eligible to apply for the Freeborn
Diversity Scholarship Award.
Applicants must have a demonstrated record of academic achievement, excellent interpersonal
skills, and an interest in serving the local legal community of one of our five Freeborn offices
(Chicago, New York, Tampa, Richmond, or Springfield).

Selection Criteria
Our scholarship award is based on the following criteria:
• Academic merit (undergraduate, graduate, and law school);
• Sincere interest in a Freeborn practice area;
• Commitment to the pursuit of diversity and inclusion in the legal field;
• Identification as a member of a historically underrepresented group or demonstrated
commitment to strengthening diversity and inclusion in the field of law;
• Excellent written communication skills; and
• Leadership qualities and community involvement.
