If you are interested in creating, working, or learning about nonprofit organizations and the intersection of philanthropy and the law, this is a pro bono opportunity you do not want to miss! Please note— 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls are welcome to apply.

The Alliance for Advocacy and Philanthropy (The Alliance) is seeking student pro-bono interns to work virtually or in-person on a variety of projects with nonprofit organizations in the Tampa Bay area. The Alliance is a partnership between the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay and Stetson University College of Law. It is a partnership designed to engage students in the philanthropic community and to strengthen the effectiveness of nonprofit efforts to address the needs of communities in the Tampa Bay area.

Students who volunteer for these pro bono opportunities are required to commit to working at least three hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks starting February 19, 2024. The preference is for longer multiweek engagements, but short-term one-time opportunities may also be available. Many of the assignments will be virtual.

While we cannot guarantee placement or host participation, some of organizations that have worked with us in the past to provide these opportunities include:

Student Projects: Updating policy, grant management, attend Fund Development Committee meetings, analyze current strategies, research donation opportunities, capital campaign research, etc.

Student Projects: Community engagement, planning give-back events, assisting with fundraising & grant writing, planning donation drives, etc.

Student Projects: Support grantmaking process with research, organize surveys and impact data reports, analyze ROI diversity and other impact outcomes, assist in program evaluation, support board in legal and nonlegal research and writing, etc.

Student Projects: Observe the nonprofit grantmaking process, attend virtual community meetings, analyze socio-economic data and assist in evaluating programmatic outcomes, conduct legal or nonlegal research and writing, etc.

Student Projects: Assist in mining new grant opportunities, assist in creating prospect plans in a CRM system for existing grants, etc.

Student Projects: Learn about the grant writing process, attend virtual meetings, research and/or analyze socio-economic data, nonprofit administration work (Reviewing phonelines and entering in requests and reviewing that data to determine the greatest needs), etc.

Student Projects: Grant research, social media assistance, nonprofit capacity building, etc.

Student Projects: Provide research, technical assistance and support in the development of the internal policies and procedures: Employee Policy Handbook, Internal Administrative Stand Operation Procedure Handbook, or Budget Standard Operating Procedure, etc.

As a student volunteer, you will conduct nonlegal research and writing assignments and you may have an opportunity to conduct legal research. In addition, you may have opportunities to:

  • Learn about the nonprofit grantmaking process
  • Attend community meetings and virtual networking opportunities with nonprofit executives
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of business executives, lawyers, and philanthropists
  • Analyze socio-economic data, and
  • Assist in evaluating programmatic outcomes
