Trial Team wins 4th National Championship of the 2022-23 Season

The Stetson Trial team captured its fourth National Championship of the season with a victory in the South Texas Mock Trial Challenge, held March 23-26, 2023, in Houston, Texas, hosted by the South Texas College of Law.  The competition consisted of 7 rounds, including the single-elimination octo-finals through the finals.  The 7-round tournament is the longest of the Trial Team competition schedule, as well as having the largest field of any 2022-23 competition with 48 teams from across the country.  The championship team is Charlotte Berryman ’24, Jacey Napoli ’24, Rylie Pennell ’24, and Olivia Urban ’24.  For Jacey Napoli, this is her second National Championship of the 2022-23 Season, and the second Trial Team member to do so this year, making this the first time two Trial Team members have each won two National Championships in the same season since the famed 1993-94 Trial Team.  South Texas is unique in that the competition requires a written trial brief, which was authored by Rylie Pennell.  The Team was coached by Stetson Trial Team Alumni, Amy Quezon ’92 and Jay VanDerZee ‘96.  In true Texas fashion, the competition motto is “Come and Take It”.  Your Stetson Trial Team did just that, bringing home the championship trophy for the first time in the 12-year competition history.  Congratulations to the Team and Coaches!
