Trial Team wins its first Championship of the 2022-23 Season

The Stetson Trial Team brought home the championship trophy at the 2022 Martin Luther King Jr. Civil Rights Trial Competition!

The competition was held on October 14-16, 2022, at the Robert T. Matsui United States Courthouse in Sacramento, California, hosted by UC Davis School of Law.

The competition team of Gabriella Avivi, Logan Jackson, Cami Rodriguez, and Jacey Napoli represented Stetson, advancing through three preliminary rounds, the semifinals, and final round to claim the championship.  In the preliminary rounds, Logan Jackson earned the award for Best Opening Statement and Jacey Napoli earned the award for Best Cross Examination.   The team was coached by two Stetson Trial Team alumni, Jaime Eagan ’93 and Alicia Roddenberg ’21.

The issue in the trial was whether a law school Dean violated the First Amendment rights of a student by instituting disciplinary action against the student following posts made on social media.

Congratulations to the Team and Coaches!
