Congratulations, Dispute Resolution Board!

Stetson University College of Law’s Dispute Resolution Board has won the 2022 University of Houston Law Center National Mediator Competition.  This is the second time we have won this competition.  Representing Stetson in this competition as mediators were Team Captain Kathryn Alkire, Reice Reid, and Selina Nadeau, all 3L students and returning DR Board members.  The team was coached by Stetson Law alumna and adjunct faculty member Amy A. Catledge, Esq.  This particular competition is a “competition within a competition,” in that the students who are competing as mediators must mediate among teams of two University of Houston students, one of whom plays the attorney and one of whom plays the client, who are also competing against each other.  After two intensive preliminary rounds, the top four mediators, including Selina, advanced to semifinals, and then the top two mediators, including Selina advanced to finals, after which Selina was announced as the champion.  This is one of the DR Board’s most difficult competitions, as each mediator competes without a teammate and must therefore “read the room” and adjust their strategy and presentation constantly throughout the competition.  After participating in this competition, students also have learned the very important professional competency of how to serve as a mediator.  Congratulations to a great team on a job very well done, and a special thanks to Professor Catledge on her expert mentoring and coaching and the many hours invested in both.
